About the Authors
Edward Vernoff
Edward Vernoff is a Professor of History at Bard High School Early College in New York City. He has a Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia University and Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees in Education from New York University. He taught at Shanghai Teachers University during the 1993-1994 academic year. He is co-author of The Penguin International Dictionary of Contemporary Biography and co-editor of The Left Academy.
Peter J. Seybolt
Peter J. Seybolt is a Professor of History Emeritus of Asian Studies at the University of Vermont. He has a Ph.D. in History and East Asian Languages (Chinese and Japanese) from Harvard University and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree.
His publications include Throwing the Emperor from His Horse: Portrait of a Village Leader in China; Revolutionary Education in China; Language Reform in China; and The Rustication of Urban Youth in China as well as numerous journal articles, reviews, and translations from Chinese. He is also the creator of an educational board game on the history and culture of China, "Feilong: The China Game designed to test and expand what players, age 12 to adult, know about China.
